On Tuesday the 9th of April, 20 players, 3 journalists and a supporter, along with Mr. Tobin and Ms. O’ Connell travelled to the Mallow GAA Sports Complex where Scoil Mhuire would play Pobailscoil Chorca Dhuibhne from Kerry.

The bus left the school at 9:30am and we arrived at 11:10am. There were lots of other teams playing too but Mallow’s huge facilities catered for everyone. The warm up started at 11:40am and kick off was at 12 noon.

The team was as followed:

Melissa Byrne

Taylor O Brien

Gwen Flatley

Aine Blanca

Aine Doyle

Orlaith Kennedy

Niamh Kennedy

Keera Curran

Erin Hanrahan

Maeve McGuigan

Patsy Kenny

Mia Corcoran

Lorna O Shea

Abbey Norris

Fiona Downey

Substitutes

Emma Culleton

Anna Quigley

Keeleigh O’Shea

Niamh Flatley

Orlaith Kennedy was captain and, unfortunately, she lost the toss. Amongst talks with the referee, it was announced that frees would be given if the ball was smacked out of the body. The girls never played by this rule so it was going to be an adjustment.

As soon as the game started the girls gave it their all.

At half time the score was

Scoil Mhuire 0:07

Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 4:04

Patsy Kenny scored 2 points Maeve McGuigan scored 2 points

Niamh Kennedy scored 1 point Mia Corcoran scored 1 point

And Lorna O’Shea scored 1 point.

The second half started not long after Niamh Flatley was brought on instead of Taylor O Brien and Anna Quigley replaced Fiona Downey. It was clear to see that No. 12 and 14 were Pobailscoil Chorca Dhuibhne’s main players. Sadly, the opposition was better and Scoil Mhuire were at the wrong end. The final score of the match was

Scoil Mhuire 0:08

Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 4:14

This means, that Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne are now Post Primary Junior C Plate Final Winners for 2019.

Unfortunately for us, we didn’t get to bring the plate home, but we hope next year that the girls will work as hard to get to the place they got to this year.
